Nature of striation in 21 cm channel Maps: velocity caustics

چکیده
ABSTRACT The alignment of striated intensity structures in thin neutral hydrogen (H i) spectroscopic channels with Galactic magnetic fields has been observed. However, the origin and nature these striations are still debatable. Some studies suggest that result solely from real cold-density filaments without considering role turbulent velocity shaping channel’s distribution. To determine relative contribution density forming channel maps, we analyse synthetic observations maps obtained realistic magnetized multiphase H i simulations thermal broadening included. We vary thickness apply Velocity Decomposition Algorithm to separate contributions. In parallel, GALFA-H compare results. Our analysis shows dominated by contribution, caustics mainly generate striations. show can cause a correlation between unsharp-masked far-infrared emission. demonstrate linear fibers revealed Rolling Hough Transform (RHT) originate caustics. As increases, fluctuations increases more RHT-detected tend be perpendicular field. Conversely, field is most prominent channels. conclude similar gradients (VChGs) approach, RHT traces through maps.

Detecting ionized bubbles in redshifted 21 cm maps
The reionization of the Universe, it is believed, occurred by the growth of ionized regions (bubbles) in the neutral intergalactic medium (IGM). We study the possibility of detecting these bubbles in radio-interferometric observations of redshifted neutral hydrogen (HI) 21 cm radiation. The signal (< 1 mJy) will be buried in noise and foregrounds, the latter being at least a few orders of magni...
متن کاملRendering of Caustics with Photon Maps
A number of techniques exist for approximating the rendering equation in order to create realistic detailed images. Photon mapping is a method that allows for the accurate rendering of a wide range of reflective and refractive phenomena. We explore the basis of the photon mapping technique with the goal of constructing a system for rendering such effects, particularly in regard to caustics. Our...
متن کاملWhat will anisotropies in the clustering pattern in redshifted 21 cm maps tell us ?
The clustering pattern in high redshift HI maps is expected to be anisotropic due to two distinct reasons, the Alcock-Paczynski effect and the peculiar velocities, both of which are sensitive to the cosmological parameters. The signal is also expected to be sensitive to the details of the HI distribution at the epoch when the radiation originated. We use simple models for the HI distribution at...
متن کاملThe optimal redshift for detecting ionized bubbles in HI 21-cm maps
The detection of individual ionized bubbles in HI 21-cm maps is one of the most promising, direct probes of the epoch of reionization (EoR). Atleast 1000 hrs of observation would be required for such a detection with either the currently functioning GMRT or the upcoming MWA. Considering the large investment of telescope time it is essential to identify the“optimal redshift” where the prospects ...
متن کاملThe spin-resolved atomic velocity distribution and 21-cm line profile of dark-age gas
The 21-cm hyperfine line of atomic hydrogen (H i) is a promising probe of the cosmic dark ages. In past treatments of 21-cm radiation it was assumed the hyperfine level populations of H i could be characterized by a velocity-independent “spin temperature” Ts determined by a competition between 21-cm radiative transitions, spin-changing collisions, and (at lower redshifts) Lyα scattering. Howeve...
